Part 4: How to live a life of joy This Christmas

Is it possible to live a life of joy every single day? I believe it is. Here’s why. Joy is already yours.

You can’t lose joy, you can only stop fighting for it. This joy can’t be found in relationships, a place, or a position. It is not dependent on your circumstances or what is going on in the world. It's not easily shaken. It is found deep within the heart of the Savior.

Social media leaves us comparing our lives with everyone else’s highlight reel all while leaving us feeling more empty. But as a child of God, you have the holy spirit living inside of you and He promises fullness of joy in His presence.

"You make known to me the path of life, in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." | Psalm 16:11

If I’m being honest, this is a subject so close to my heart yet one of the hardest to talk about. It’s hard to talk about because I never want it to come across as this “head in the clouds” type of happiness. But at the same time, I can’t keep this joy that I have to myself.

I remember having a conversation with my campus pastor at Elevation Church during our weekly reviews, and he said “Kenzie, I want to challenge you to figure out why you have so much joy in a way that you can communicate it and share it with others” I’ve spent the past few years asking myself that question and taking that advice and digging deep. Why it is Jesus continues to fill me with so much joy?

There’s a lot I could share, but there are two major keys I want to talk about today.

The first is intimacy with Holy Spirit

Intimacy with the Holy Spirit is the key to a life of joy. It’s our constant communication and connection with Him that calms our fears, brings peace to our souls, and produces deep joy that cannot be shaken. This looks different for every person, but for me, it looks like starting my day in His presence. Waking up extra early, starting with thanksgiving, resting in His presence, reading and journaling the Word, and spending time talking to the Holy Spirit and processing my thoughts out so I can start the day with a clarity of mind and from a place of rest. I never really liked mornings but getting into the habit of waking up early has changed my life in so many ways. It’s from this place that joy overflows from the depths of my soul. A joy so deep, wild, and full that doesn’t make sense outside of His presence.

The second is a life of hope

What’s the first thing you think about before you go to sleep and when you wake up in the morning? Our words have power. What we speak often becomes our reality. Good or bad. This is why I strive to daily get my hopes up, and I mean WAY up. I love to start my week with writing out a list of things I am believing God for. I speak them into existence and imagine things that aren’t yet as if they are. I get my hopes up for my day, my week, my future, and dream the impossible with God. And He never fails to fill me with an abundance of joy.

So this Christmas, let’s press into Him and live a life of joy.
