3 things keeping you from hearing God's voice

This past weekend, I decided I was going to make a “fun-genda” with places and restaurants me and my roommate could explore in Charlotte. I even took it as far as making a pretty plan in my Evernote template with the places in order along with pictures. I LOVE to plan things, and I think sometimes almost more than actually doing what I’ve planned.

Later that night I was about to fall asleep when God interrupted me and spoke something that wasn’t what I wanted to hear at the moment, but it’s exactly what I needed.

Conviction rarely feels good, but it is always for our good.

This area of needing to always schedule and plan my life was something He was asking me to surrender over to Him. After waking up the next morning, I decided to take a break from social media and simply just be. I grabbed my coffee and headed outside where I found myself sitting for the next few hours.

It’s amazing the peace that instantly floods your soul when you take the time to stop and be still in the presence of God.

I’m afraid we often miss what God is wanting to speak to us because of all of the other noises filling our lives.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to live a busy life. I want a full life. I don't want to be so busy that I miss what God is wanting to speak to me. I want to live slowly so I don't miss a word He says.

There are 3 noises that often keep us from hearing the voice of God

1. The noise of busyness

The noise of busyness will tell you that you don't have the time to set your alarm back an hour to spend time with God. It will have you saying yes to everything and left drained and empty. This noise comes in the form of tasks and to do lists and over time will put up a wall in your relationship with God.

2. The noise of social media

The noise of social media will cause you to think someone else’s life is better than your life. Their relationship will always look better. Their house will always be prettier.

3. The noise of the enemy

The noise of the enemy will cause you to doubt your purpose. It will cause you to question God’s goodness. It will always leave you lonely and confused.

But maybe for you, it's something else. Maybe it's the noise of rejection, the noise of insecurities, or the noise of failure. Whatever it is for you, the first step is to slow down and lean inLean in to what God is speaking and then identify the noise. Once you have identified the noise, ask Him to speak to you.

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." | John 10:27

This is a prayer I often like to pray,

"Jesus, what do you want to say to me right now in this moment? Speak to me, I'm listening."

My prayer for you is that as you identify the noises in your life, you would lean in and hear what God has been speaking to you all along. He is madly in love with you and longs to be in communication with you. My prayer is that you would find peace and rest in Him this week and as you practice stillness, His voice would become louder than any other noise in your life.

So you may be wondering why in the world there's a video here and what it has to do with hearing the voice of God. It really has nothing to do with that, but after experiencing so much freedom from slowing down this past weekend, I decided to do something I LOVE and that's vlogging. I mainly did it for memories, (not trying to be a youtuber here) so excuse my shaky hands and our obnoxious laughter. If i've learned anything this past week, it's that life is so much more enjoyable when you slow down and let go of your agenda.
